Arizona Department of Transportation This study updated work conducted in 1999 and 2000 and applied a methodology for prioritizing and programming both climbing and passing lane projects on the Arizona State Highway System. In coordination with the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and the ADOT Districts, the previous methodology used to prioritize climbing and passing lanes was revised. Candidate locations for both climbing and passing lanes were identified and the required data (traffic data, accident data, etc.) was collected. Based on the revised methodologies, project rankings for climbing and passing lanes were developed. The results were documented in two separate documents—one for climbing lanes and one for passing lanes—to be used for programming projects.

Arizona Department of Transportation Lima & Associates conducted an update and upgrade of the current Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Functional Classification Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database in order to provide ADOT, councils of governments, metropolitan planning organizations, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) with correct mileage information for federally classified roadways in the State. The Lima Team reconciled the ADOT functional classification GIS database with the official functional classification maps of the FHWA. In addition, any approved changes not reflected on the official maps were included and the database was linearly referenced to the Arizona Transportation Information System Roads. The 1998 urban boundary delineation for the state was reviewed and possible boundary corrections using 2000 Census population data were identified. A user-friendly interface for querying the database and generating statistics, reports, and maps at various geographical and jurisdictional levels was created.

Of Arizona Railroad Inventory Client:
Arizona Department of Transportation Lima & Associates worked to create a detailed state rail network inventory of data related to railroad operations and infrastructure in Arizona. After gathering data through field review and collection from railroad companies, a GIS database was developed that included data such as mileage, ownership, classification, train type, service status, etc. A linear referencing route system was also created in order to spatially associate this data to the rail shapefile for easy updating and display. Maps were then prepared to display various attributes of the rail lines based on the data, and a final geodatabase was delivered to ADOT. Lima & Associates also provided knowledge and experience in support of identifying the status, needs, and plans for the two Class I railroads that serve Arizona as well as the state’s short line, industrial, and mining railroads. Lima & Associates’ considerable knowledge of Arizona railroads and their recent history helped in the identification of opportunities and strategies for railroad-related preservation. |
